COKE, Edward (1758-1837), of Longford, Derbys.

Coke stood for Derby in 1780 as the corporation candidate, with the support of the Devonshire interest; and was returned after a contest. Like his brother Thomas, a friend of Fox, Edward Coke adhered first to Rockingham and then to Portland. He voted in opposition in all the last divisions against North’s ministry, and with the Coalition on Shelburne’s peace preliminaries and the East India bill. He remained in opposition with Fox throughout Pitt’s ministry.
