In 1754 James West’s paper on Pelham’s election engagements, sent to Newcastle 13 Mar.,Add. 32995, f. 71. notes against Shoreham: ‘Mr. Bristow to be brought in by Mr. Phillipson, receiving £1000, the remainder of the expense, which it is thought will amount to £1000, is to be furnished (as Mr. Phillipson proposed to have it done) amongst themselves or by Mr. Bristow.’ £1000 was paid to Phillipson for Bristow’s election from secret service funds on 2 May 1754.Namier, Structure, 340.

On 26 July 1760 Bristow is included in Newcastle’s list of ‘Persons to be brought into Parliament at the next election’; by 17 Feb. 1761 he is relegated to a concluding note on those for whom places were ‘still wanted’; and by 1 Mar. he has disappeared from the list of ‘Persons to be brought into Parliament’.Add. 32999, f. 19; Add. 32919, ff. 58, 344."Bristow did not stand again, and died 9 Dec. 1776.
