Thomas Wynn founded the fortunes of his family by marrying the heiress to the Glynnllivon estate, building up a dominating position in Caernarvonshire politics. At George I’s accession he received a post in the household of the Prince of Wales, to whom he owed the various places and titles subsequently conferred on himself and his brother, Sir William Wynn. In 1721 the report of the secret committee of inquiry into the South Sea bubble disclosed that he was one of the members who had accepted stock from the Company without paying for it.
