WHETHAM, Thomas (c.1665-1741), of Turnham Green, Mdx.

After serving in Scotland, the West Indies and Spain under William III and Anne, Whetham commanded the left wing of the army at Sheriffmuir in the rebellion of 1715. Returned as a Whig for Barnstaple after a contest in 1722, he did not stand again. In or about 1739 he purchased the manors of Kirklington and Hockerton in Nottinghamshire for £25,000.PCC 140 Spurway; Thoroton, Notts. iii. 99. He died 28 Apr. 1741.
