biography text
Daniel Lascelles was a partner in the family business. ‘He was not exactly a sleeping partner in the House, but he never wrote its letters and did not always see them before they were sent off.’1R. Pares, ‘A London West-India Merchant House, 1740-69’, Essays presented to Sir Lewis Namier, 79. In 1781 he was chairman of the committee of merchants and planters in Barbados to consider what action should be taken following the hurricane there.
In politics Daniel Lascelles followed his brother, and there is no significant difference in their voting records. Daniel is not known to have spoken in the Commons. He left Parliament when the family seat was wanted for his brother.
He died 24 May 1784.
