Powney, a considerable landowner in Berkshire, was returned without a contest in 1754, and classed by Dupplin as a Tory. On 23 Apr. 1755 he spoke on the Tory side in the debate on the Oxfordshire election.1Parlty. Hist. xv. 437-41. He died 8 Mar. 1757.
