Benyon was a friend and contemporary at Eton of Lord Fitzwilliam, was returned on his interest at Peterborough, and followed him in politics. ‘A well-meaning honest man’, wrote the Public Ledger in 1779. He opposed North, supported the Coalition, and opposed Pitt. There is no record of his having spoken in the House.
He died 22 Aug. 1796, leaving estates in Essex and Berkshire worth £8000 p.a.1Gent. Mag. 1797, p. 791.
