In 1772, when through the death of several intermediate branches of the Hopkins family1Gent. Mag. 1794, p. 183. the inheritance from ‘Vulture’ Hopkins came to Benjamin Bond, he was clerk to a City attorney. In 1780 he became a candidate at Oxford, but withdrew during the poll. In 1783 he was nominated for Surrey where he had considerable property, but declined before the poll. In 1784 he successfully contested Ilchester on the Lockyer interest. He was classed as ‘Opposition’ by William Adam in May 1784, but apart from his vote in favour of parliamentary reform, 18 Apr. 1785, his only other recorded votes during this Parliament were with Administration over the Regency, 1788-9. There is no record of his having spoken in the House. He died 30 Jan. 1794.
