Edgcumbe was returned for Fowey on the family interest as a Government supporter; voted, however, against Richmond’s fortifications plan, 27 Feb. 1786; but with Pitt during the Regency crisis, 1788-9. According to Mrs. Boscawen, widow of the admiral, he attended the House ‘most assiduously’.2To Mrs. Delany, ?July 1786, Autobiog. Corresp. vi. 376. At the opening of the session, 21 Jan. 1790, Valletort moved the Address, this being his only recorded speech in his first Parliament.

He died 26 Sept. 1839.
