Edgeley’s election for Hereford in 1423 is strikingly anomalous. He was the only man returned for the city in Henry VI’s reign who had no traceable connexions there. If, as suggested in the earlier biography, his election was a function of his service to the Staffords, he was unique in that respect also. He may not have lived long enough to repeat his election, last appearing in the records in May 1424, when the Exchequer was ordered to allow him his accustomed fees as keeper of Kennington palace and usher of the royal chamber.2 E159/200, brevia Trin. rot. 16d.
