The duties of the clerk of the statute merchant in Southampton may have been performed by the town clerk, in which case Marlborough was holding the latter office when returned to at least three of his 11 Parliaments. However, John Fleming* took over from him as clerk of the statute merchant at some point before April 1415, and as town clerk by December 1426.
