William Okeden’s grandfather Edmund, whose family had been seated at Ellingham, Hants, since the time of Henry VII, succeeded to Little Critchell and properties in Corfe and the Isle of Purbeck, on the death of his maternal grandfather George Uvedale in 1629.1Hutchins, Dorset, iii. 128, 469. Returned for Corfe Castle as a Whig in 1715, he is not recorded as voting. He died 26 Sept. 1718, leaving his estates to his two natural sons by his housekeeper, Mary Morgan, to the exclusion of his legitimate descendants.2PCC 94 Browning.
