Born in Barbados, Bromley was the son of a wealthy sugar planter, who was said to have begun as a pedlar in Barbados,1HMC Egmont Diary, iii. 260. became speaker of the local house of assembly and member of council in 1690,2CSP Col. 1689-92, pp. 7, 77, 210, 237, 282. bought the manor of Horseheath in Cambridgeshire from Lord Alington in 1700 for £400,000, spending £30,000, on improvements,3Camb. Antiq. Soc. Proc. xli. 27. and was returned for the county in 1705. Succeeding his father as knight of the shire in 1707, he was re-elected after a contest in 1715, when he was classed as a Whig who would often vote with the Tories. He voted against the Government on the septennial bill in 1716, and was one of the Whigs who are listed as voting against them in the division on Lord Cadogan in 1717. He died 20 Oct. 1718.
