Baptist Leveson Gower was returned as a Tory for Newcastle-under-Lyme on his family’s interest. He consistently voted against the Government till his brother, Lord Gower, joined the Administration in December 1744, when he was appointed a lord of Trade, resigning in June 1749. He became a member of the Duke of Bedford’s circle, joined White’s, and in 1751 went into opposition with Bedford, parting company with Lord Gower. He absented himself from the division on the Saxon subsidy, which Bedford opposed, in January 1752.1Add. 32726, f. 84.
He died 4 Aug. 1782.
