Sir William St. Quintin sat for Hull as a Whig in 11 successive Parliaments. Appointed to the Treasury board at George I’s accession, he lost his post in 1717, when he followed Walpole into opposition. Obtaining a lucrative Irish sinecure on Walpole’s return to office, he died 30 June 1723.
