Patrick Vanse, a professional soldier, of an old Wigtownshire family, succeeded his cousin, Sir Alexander Maxwell, 2nd Bt., for Wigtown Burghs at the age of 60 in 1715, voting with the Administration in all recorded divisions, including that on Lord Cadogan in June 1717.1More Culloden Pprs. ii. 173.
