Patrick Vanse, a professional soldier, of an old Wigtownshire family, succeeded his cousin, Sir Alexander Maxwell, 2nd Bt., for Wigtown Burghs at the age of 60 in 1715, voting with the Administration in all recorded divisions, including that on Lord Cadogan in June 1717.2More Culloden Pprs. ii. 173. He did not stand again and died 27 Jan. 1733, ‘owing to the breaking out of a wound he received’ in Spain.3W. Balbirnie, Account of Fam. of Vanse, 22.
