Manners Sutton retained his seat on the family interest and gave a silent support to Pitt’s administration. In 1791 he was listed among opponents of the repeal of the Test Act in Scotland. In 1796 he retired in favour of his brother Thomas. After succeeding his elder brother at Kelham in 1804, he waived the nomination of a Member for Newark. In 1820 he sought the revival of the Lexington peerage as eventual heir of his uncle Lord Robert Manners Sutton, to whom he said it had been promised. He died 17 Feb. 1826.1Add. 38369, f. 289.
