Egerton was returned unopposed for Brackley on his family’s interest in March 1690, at which time he was noted as a Whig by Lord Carmarthen (Sir Thomas Osborne†). He was an inactive Member, though in April 1691 he was noted as a Court supporter by Robert Harley*. Egerton died just before Christmas 1691, a new writ for Brackley being issued on 24 Dec. He was buried at Hemel Hempstead.2 Luttrell, Brief Relation, ii. 320.
