biography text

Alderhithe, who traded in cloth, is first recorded as being assessed for alnage in Cambridgeshire in 1396-7. When returned to Parliament for Cambridge in 1411, having already served two terms as bailiff, he was mainperned by a former mayor, William Salle, and by William Wedgwood. In 1428, along with another Cambridge burgess, he conveyed to Thomas Neel and others a messuage in ‘le Smalebriggestrete’ in St. Botolph’s parish. The two tenements he sold before 1446 to Richard Andrew were in the same part of the town, where he presumably lived.2E101/338/5; C219/10/6; Add. 5813, f. 178; Cambridge Antiq. Soc. 40. ser. ix. 4.
