biography text
During the Michaelmas term of 1397, Hugh and Alice Merdene conveyed a messuage and land in Reigate to Thomas Barber by a fine recorded in the court of common pleas. In the following summer he considered it expedient to sue out a royal pardon, with specific regard to his attachment to the Lords Appellant some ten years before. Although the nature of this support remains unknown, it is worth noting that one of the latter was Richard, earl of Arundel, and lord of the manor of Reigate.1C67/31 m. 12; CP25(1) 231/65/84.
