biography text

Barber’s name appears on the Bedford burgess roll of 1399 and on the local lay subsidy rolls for 1399 and 1417, when he was assessed at 2s. and 3s. respectively. It was probably he, who, together with his wife, Alice, sold one third of a messuage in Goldington, Bedfordshire, to John Daynsy in 1398, and who two years later offered sureties of £20 for the good behaviour of two law-breakers at the mayor’s view of frankpledge held in Bedford.2C.F.
