biography text

Crowborough was a tenant of a house in Rochester belonging to the Charterhouse, London, and was also employed by the Carthusian monks to keep the priory’s other properties in the city in good repair. But by July 1391 he had let his rent fall into arrears amounting to £3, and as a consequence the prior arranged to distrain his goods unless he immediately made up the deficit and rendered a correct account of his expenditure on maintenance.1CAD, ii.
