biography text

A member of a Bridport family,3HMC 6th Rep. 476; C146/646. Andrew is first heard of at Easter 1392 when Robert Forshey awarded him rights of reversion in property in ‘Forstereshey’, ‘Hermenneshey’ and ‘La Rode’, Dorset. (In 1399 the tenants made a quitclaim of the same for £20.) He later owned a house in South Street, Bridport, and land nearby in Symondsbury. Forshey, who manufactured cloth (though apparently only on a small scale), served as bailiff of Bridport for four terms, during the last of these, in February 1414, attending the county court at Dorchester in order to inform the sheriff of the results of the local parliamentary elections. He was himself returned to Parliament shortly after the end of the official year.4Dorset Feet of Fines, 215, 232, 243; Dorset RO, B3/D2, f. 92; E101/343/29; C219/11/3.
