Gurtaboys, a minor local official of the duchy of Cornwall, acted for some years as sub-bailiff of the hundred of Pyder. As such he appeared at the duchy exchequer at Lostwithiel every Michaelmas between 1405 and 1416 to present the accounts of the bailiwick on behalf of the prior of Bodmin, who held the office in fee.1SC6/819/15, 820/2, 3; Duchy of Cornw. RO, ministers’ accts. 35-43. He had ceased to occupy the post a year later, when his only known election to Parliament for one of the duchy boroughs took place. In 1418 he was sued for a debt of £7 13s.4d. incurred at Lostwithiel two years previously. He was then described as a yeoman.2C241/212/28.
