biography text

In 1398 Litelcote and his sister, Anne, were given successive remainders in property and land at Compton (a few miles north of Devizes) held for life by John Gryffyth and his wife. He acted as surety for the attendance of John Peyntour as burgess for Devizes in the Parliament of 1407, and was present at the Wiltshire county elections of 1415. William Coventre III and John Coventre I, the Devizes clothiers, were his sureties for attendance in the Commons the following year, his companion being Peyntour. Litelcote Litelcote is last recorded in 1428, as a tenant of lands at Orcheston (between Devizes and Amesbury) and Homington (near Salisbury).1Wilts Feet of Fines (Wilts. Rec. Soc. xli), 199; C219/10/4, 11/7, 8; Feudal Aids, v. 244.
