biography text

In May 1411 a John Lyvett represented Hastings on a jury from the Cinque Ports required to indict the notorious pirate, William Long II of Rye, and possibly the same man was later returned to Parliament.1E101/67/18, no. 6. However, under Henry V, there were three barons of the Cinque Ports of this name (distinguished from each other by the terms senior, medius and junior), and all claimed exemption from taxation on land in east Sussex. Any one of them might have been the MP.2E179/225/34, 36, 38, 40, 42. A John Lyvett represented Hastings at six Brodhulls meeting between Apr. 1436 and July 1440: White and Black Bks. of Cinque Ports (Kent Rec. Ser. xix), 8, 12, 13.
