MALTMAN, Roger, of Northampton.

This Member was probably related to William Maltman, who sat for Northampton in the Parliament of 1420, and for whose attendance in the Commons he offered personal securities. Maltman is described in the borough records as a fishmonger, and although he remains an obscure figure we know that during his term as bailiff he and a colleague obtained a lease from the Crown of a ‘certain plot’ of meadow near the town, which they were to hold for a term of 20 years at an annual rent of 5s. It was also at this time that Maltman witnessed a deed in Northampton for John Green, a burgess of Coventry.1Northampton Recs. ed. Markham and Cox, ii. 557; CFR, xiii. 207; CCR, 1413-19, p. 79.
