PACHFORD, Richard, of Winchester, Hants.

When holding the inferior bailiffship in 1381, Pachford informed the sheriff of Hampshire of the results of the city’s parliamentary elections. During his bailiffship of the 24, he had enrolled in the city court the deed of conveyance of his croft (‘Le Hankeheye’) outside the west gate. He later leased from Hyde abbey land next to it, and in 1390 he acquired more near the cemetery of St. Anastasius outside the north gate. Pachford’s holdings inside the walls consisted of several tenements and shops in Calpe Street; and it was no doubt there that he carried on his trade as a goldsmith.3C219/8/5; Stowe 846, ff. 88, 89v, 97, 97v; Winchester Coll. mun. 12155; Winchester RO, 34/BX/TC9, enrolments, m. 27. In 1406 he brought a suit in the court of common pleas against an apprentice for breach of his contact of service.
