RICHARD, Philip, of Reading, Berks.

One of the most obscure of the Reading burgesses, Philip may have been the son of John and Elizabeth Richard, who were living in the town in 1379. He was certainly himself resident there, for in 1410 he gave 6s. in aid of repairs to the parish church of St. Laurence. He was also called ‘of Reading’ in 1417, when pardoned his outlawry for not appearing in court to answer Geoffrey Crymelford, alderman and grocer of London, for a debt of five marks.1E179/73/42; C.
