biography text

In the early 15th century the family of Row (or Rauf) held land near Tavistock of the abbot of Tavistock, but Matthew does not himself appear in any of the surviving records of the abbatial estates.1Devon RO, T1258 M/S21, ff. 19, 36, 44. From want of evidence to the contrary, Matthew Row of Tiverton, although a contemporary, must be regarded as another person (JUST 1/1502 m. 113d, 1513 mm. 35, 38; Reg. Stafford ed. Hingeston-Randolph, 349).
