biography text
Between 1410 and 1422 Sharp owned land at a number of places in east Sussex, on which as a Portsman he was able to claim exemption from taxation assessed on their yearly value (over 35s.). He was among the barons from Hastings who sat on a Cinque Ports’ jury at Dover in May 1411 which indicted William Long II of Rye for piracy. At an unknown date in 1416 or 1417 he was held in custody by judgement of the court at New Romney, until a writ of venire facias called him into a higher court. His alleged offence is not recorded.3E179/225/33, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42; E101/67/18 no. 6; Romney assmt. bk. 2, f. 85.
