biography text

Between 1373 and 1410 Skele held land at Udimore and Icklesham, on which, as a Portsman, he claimed exemption from parliamentary fifteenths. He was paid 16s.8d. by Winchelsea for ten days’ attendance at the Merciless Parliament of 1388, during its second session, which assembled after Easter. Whether he was also present in the Commons at other times is not recorded. In the 1390s he was engaged in importing wine, salt and other goods, sometimes in ships from Winchelsea.3Add.
