biography text
William’s family was associated with Walreddon, a hamlet about one-and-a-half miles south of Tavistock. In 1393 as a tenant of Tavistock abbey he was holding ‘Pufille’ park in Inswell Down, which had once belonged to Walter Fonte and his daughter, Lavinia, perhaps his own wife or mother. Before 1414 he rented a house in Tavistock from the abbey for 16s. a year.1Devon RO, Bedford mss D84/22, 29 m. 14, T1258M/S21, f. 125. John Walreddon, the portreeve of Tavistock in 1401-2, was probably his son.2Ibid. 482A/PF 32.
