biography text
In 1379 West entered into a bond for the payment of £10 to Thomas Jordan and John Wright, the latter having been one of his sureties at the time of his first return to Parliament, two years previously. He himself acted as a mainpernor for Thomas Bedford on his election as a parliamentary burgess for Bedford in 1393 and 1394. Although his name is struck through on the burgess roll for 1399, West continued to take an interest in municipal affairs for another year, at least. In 1400 he was made constable of one of the 12 wards of the town; and he also stood bail of £10 on behalf of a local man named Richard Hunt.1C219/8/1, 9/9, 10; Bedford Town Hall, DDX 67/47; Bedford ct. bk. 1400-1, mm. 2d, 5; C.F.
