biography text
In the 1390s Wybard was engaged in importing wine from Bordeaux into Rye and Winchelsea. He was master of the Katherine, which in May 1404 joined a fleet from the same ports and Sandwich to capture and plunder a ship of Biscay sailing off Alderney. He divided with two men of Rye a share of the spoils, including 1,000 pounds of iron, 200 pounds of rosin and 22 quarters of salt. Later, he served on a ship supplied by Hastings for service to Henry V.2E122/33/28, 30; CPR, 1401-5, pp. 431, 434-5; CCR, 1402-5, p. 356; E101/51/1.
