Pilkington, a member of the 1st Lord Egmont’s musical circle,1HMC Egmont Diary, i. 325, 337, 342. took a leading part on the government side in the Yorkshire election of 1734, later contributing £50 towards a scrutiny.2Wentworth Pprs. 488; Add. 32689, f. 270. Returned for Horsham as a government supporter by his neighbour and friend, the 7th Viscount Irwin, he was one of the sponsors of the Leeds turnpike bill in 1751.3HMC Var. viii. 174; CJ, xxvi. 80.

He died 11 Aug. 1778.
