The brother of Mrs. Montagu, the well-known blue-stocking, Robinson was returned for Canterbury in 1747 after succeeding to his mother’s Kentish estates. Classed as Opposition, he cooperated with Leicester House in the attacks on General Philip Anstruther in March 1751, till they were suspended by the death of the Prince of Wales.1Add. 47073. He also spoke on the regency bill. In the following session he supported opposition motions to reduce the army and the land tax,2Walpole, Mems. Geo. II, i. 141-2, 213, 218. and opposed the forfeited estates bill.3Add. 32726, f. 221. Re-elected in 1754, when he was classed as ‘Whig, against’,4Add. 33034, f. 177. he died 30 Nov. 1800.
