Long was ‘a great favourite of Mr. Pitt’,1Morning Post, 10 Mar. 1796. who brought him into Parliament for the Treasury borough of Rye and soon afterwards into office. His parliamentary career lies outside our period. He died 17 Jan. 1838, aged 77.
