In 1754 Mordaunt was returned unopposed for Christchurch on the interest of Edward Hooper, who had put both seats at the disposal of the Treasury. Between 1754 and 1761 Mordaunt received 800 a year out of secret service funds. On 26 Jan. 1761 he submitted a petition to the King setting out his ‘unfortunate situation’,1Add. 32918, f. 74. and later that year, after he had retired from Parliament, his pension was increased to 1,200.2Namier, Structure, 473.
He died 1 July 1767.
