Lord Guernsey was returned for Castle Rising on the interest of his cousin, Lord Suffolk. He was normally a Government supporter, but on 25 Feb. 1774 acted as teller against Administration on the motion to make Grenville’s Election Act permanent. In 1774 he was returned for Maidstone after a contest. Only two speeches by him are recorded: on 13 Jan. 1774 he moved the Address, and on 29 Nov. 1774 proposed Sir Fletcher Norton for Speaker.
He died 21 Oct. 1812.
