BRISTOWE, John.

The will of Richard Salkeld of Cumberland, which was proved before the bishop of Carlisle in January 1379, contains a bequest of 2s. to one John Bristowe, but it is now impossible to tell if the latter went on to become a Member of the second 1397 Parliament. There can be little doubt, however, that John and Robert Bristowe, who together represented Carlisle on this occasion, were closely related, being perhaps uncle and nephew. During the parliamentary recess John Monceaux was bound over in Chancery to keep the peace towards Robert; and the two kinsmen may have sought election so that they could follow the dispute more closely and present their case in person at Westminster.1Test.
