Cross witnessed local deeds in 1411 and 1417. After serving as MP in 1419, he attended the local elections to the Parliaments of 1422, 1425, 1426, 1429, 1431 and 1433, and, in 1437, was appointed tax collector for High Street Ward. Between 1420 and 1434, he rented a house and garden near the guildhall from the commonalty and also a grange in Lorimer’s Lane. In 1427 he received a royal pardon of outlawry for failing to appear in answer to a plea of debt for £27 brought against him by a Southampton merchant. He was probably dead by 1439.3Reading Pub.
