Possibly a descendant of John Frere, who had represented the city in Parliament in 1335, William witnessed deeds at Rochester in 1401 and 1408. As bailiff he responded to the royal writ of October 1410 concerning the payment of the wages of its representatives in the Parliament held earlier in the year. At the parliamentary elections of 1411 he acted as mainpernor for Roger Landford and John Everard I.2Arch. Cant. xxi. 315; Harl. Ch. 49A 36; C219/10/5, 6.
