As a trustee, in May 1401 Gillingham made a conveyance to Joan, wife of William Rypoun, of an inn called the Hert atte Hopp in Rochester. His own wife had inherited a share in land at Wormshill, about ten miles away, but this property she and her sisters sold in 1403.2Arch. Cant. xxi. 315; CP25(1)111/260/157. He was probably related to John Gillingham, who from 1422 paid an annual rent of £4 6s.8d. for the George atte Hope in Rochester.3CCR, 1422-9, p. 193.
