biography text

As bailiff of Dunwich, Goodber made the returns to the Parliaments of 1384 (Apr.) and 1393. It was during his first bailiffship, too, that in April 1384 he was one of the burgesses party to an agreement with Sir Robert Swillington regarding the foreshore rights in the havens of Dunwich and Southwold. In November 1392, once more as bailiff, he represented the town in a suit brought before the admiral’s court sitting at Dunwich.2C219/8/10, 9/9; Add. Chs. 40663, 40665.
