Hales and his wife conveyed a messuage and a garden in Maldon to John Joce I in June 1387. He was paid only 12d. a day for his attendance at the Merciless Parliament, even though he had obtained a writ de expensis for payment at the full rate.1Essex Feet of Fines, iii. 207; ct. bk. i, f. 5v; CCR, 1385-9, p. 496.
