More was a burgess of Barnstaple in the 1420s when important borough ordinances were established, and in June 1428 he was one of those, described as ‘viri fidedigni de vicincto ... prioratus de Barnstapolia’, who were present when a new prior was admitted to the local Cluniac house. On 29 Nov. of the same year, referred to as ‘of Barnstaple, gentleman’, he was pardoned his outlawry in London for non-appearance when sued by the prior of Launceston for trespass and by another man for a debt of £26 13s.4d.1Reprint of Barnstaple Recs. ed.
