MORTON, William, of Leicester.

Morton owned property in Leicester in the 1370s and 1380s.1Leicester Bor. Recs. ed. Bateson, ii. 199, 402, 405, 408. He served with Geoffrey Clerk in the Merciless Parliament of 1388, and in the following year he and Clerk were made wardens of the guild of the Assumption in All Saint’s church, Leicester. Perhaps mindful of his guilt by association in the Acts of the Parliament, he took out a royal pardon in June 1398. His occupation was then given as ‘spicer’.2Trans. Leics. Arch.
