biography text

Nightingale, who witnessed the borough elections to the Parliaments of 1426 and 1432, owned two cottages in Leicester and a messuage and other property in the suburb of Wigston. His family came from Braunston in Northamptonshire, where he retained land until 1431. It was perhaps he who in 1437 obtained the office of keeper of the park of King’s Cliffe in the royal forest of Rockingham, on the Northamptonshire-Leicestershire border, and was still occupying it in 1442.2C219/13/4, 14/3; Leicester Bor.
