SHILLINGFORD, Roger, of Exeter, Devon.

Shillingford became a freeman of Exeter on 23 Oct. 1419, only 18 months before his election to Parliament for the city. His name also appears on the return for the second Parliament of 1421, but the local receiver’s accounts make clear that it was in fact his well-known kinsman, John Shillingford, who actually sat on that occasion. Apart from Roger’s nomination in 1423 as party to a lease of property in ‘Corylane’ (now Gandy Street), Exeter, which John then secured, and his appearance as an elector of the civic officials just after Michaelmas 1425, nothing else is heard of him.1Exeter City RO, mayors’ ct. rolls 7-8 Hen.
